Beyond Grief

Retired Teachers

The originally scheduled meeting for March has been cancelled due to scheduling conflicts. Members, and those interested in attending, are urged to put Monday, April 10 on their calendars for the next meeting. This meeting is especially important to attend, as it will deal with planning for “Day at the Capitol” April 12, and the collection of yearly dues. Osage Cemetery

The annual meeting of Osage Community Cemetery, Inc. will be held at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 11, with a potluck lunch to follow. Bring a dish to share with the group. Plates, napkins, flatware and water will be provided for the lunch. Important decisions will be made about the tree limb situation causing maintenance problems. Everyone with family ties to the cemetery, located at the intersection of CR 208 and CR 205 northeast of Weimar, is encouraged to attend. For more info, email roxannjohnson@me.com.

There’s more Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.

Widowed Spouses Support Group

Hospice Brazos Valley will host a Grief Support Group on the third Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for anyone who is grieving the loss of a spouse. For more information and location of the group meeting, contact Cindy Fanning at (979) 968-6913.

Tours of the Courthouse

The Fayette County Historical Commission will be leading tours of the Fayette County Courthouse on the second and fourth Saturdays each month. The tours will start at Founder’s Park at 11 a.m. on those days. If you are interested in learning a little more about the history of the county, the founding fathers and the courthouse, plan to meet at Founder’s Park beside the County Clerk’s office this coming Saturday. Tours are limited to the first 10 people each of these Saturdays.

Loss of a Child Support Group

A support and educational group for parents or grandparents who are grieving the loss of a child at any age or any stage of the grieving process with be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. For more information and location of support group, contact Cindy Fanning at (979) 9686913.

National Vietnam Veterans Day

The Fayette County Record is trying to build a list of local veterans who lost their lives in the Vietnam War in advance of National Vietnam Veterans Day March 29. St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Women will hold a bake sale on Saturday, March 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $5 and sausage link is $7. The meal is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of St. Mark’s Auxiliary.

Auditions For Newest Production Fayette County Community Theatre will hold open auditions for the newest production, Drinking Habits, on March 12 at 1 p.m. and March 13 at 5:45 p.m. The auditions will be held at the Sanford SchmidAmphitheater on the grounds of theTexas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center located at 250 W. Fairgrounds Rd. in La Grange.

Bingo in Ledbetter

Bingo for Seniors (60 and older plus guests) will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, March 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. Cost is $5 per card and covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips, snacks and drinks will be available for free-will donation. For more information, call (979) 249-2175.

Hermann Sons Life Meeting Hermann Sons Life Plum will meet Monday, March 13 at Sealand Seafood & Steaks in La Grange beginning at 5 p.m.

Fayette County Republican Women The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 16, at The Wine Haus restaurant, 110 W. North Main St. in Flatonia. There will be two speakers, Amy Mundy, District Director from Texas Federation of Republican Women, will give a brief history of TFRW and its impact on Republican politics over the past several decades. Also, Josh Vandever, Fayette County EMS Director, will discuss how the recent changes in St. Mark’s Medical Center services may affect Emergency Medical Services in the county. Attendees are encouraged to arrive early if they plan to order dinner (Dutch treat). Parkinson’s Support Group

The Fayette County Parkinson’s Support Group will hold their March meeting on the third Thursday of the month, March 16, at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 E. Pearl St. in La Grange in a designated room between the gym and the street. There is adequate handicapped parking adjacent to the building, complete with a ramp for anyone who cannot manage the steps. This group is open to anyone who has an interest in finding out more information about Parkinson’s Disease. It is not necessary for you to be a resident of Fayette County; this affliction attacks in the same manner regardless of where you live. Wildlife Management Banquet

The Colorado County Wildlife Management Association’s (CCWMA) Banquet is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 18 at the Columbus Hall in Columbus. There is no cost to attend. Meal tickets will be available for purchase for a barbecue meal at 6 p.m. with free soft drinks and beer while it lasts. This year the guest speaker will be Alan Cain, TPWD Whitetail Deer Program Leader, who will provide an update on Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) in Texas.

Food Truck at Waldeck

The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at Junction FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Saturday, March 18, from 10 until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as the clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags and boxes. A few wagons will be furnished by CTFB, but if the client has their own wagon, bring it.
