Square Dance Club
The La Grange Roadrunners Square Dance Club is opening the doors on Jan. 17 and again on Jan. 24 for new dancers to come visit and see if they can learn to square dance. This is “Fun Nights’’ where the club gets to introduce new people to the fun of square dancing. Square dancing is enjoyed by all ages. It is great exercise for the brain, memory and coordination. Classes will be held from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Once classes begin, plan on being there each Tuesday for twenty weeks. Square dancing in held at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl St. in La-Grange.
Chili Cook Off
The 18th Round Top Family Library Chili Cook-Off is Saturday, Jan. 21 beginning at noon at the Stone Cellar in Round Top, with music by the Black Cat Choir. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. If you want to cook, apply online at www.ilovetoread.org or pick up an application at the library. All proceeds benefit the Round Top Family Library.
Blood Drive
The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Fayetteville. The mobile unit will be at the Old Fire Station beginning at 8 a.m. until 12 noon. There’s more The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 21 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tree limbs, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. St. Cecilia’s Round Top
St. Cecilia’s Round Top Episcopal Church is adding a second service starting Jan. 22. Service times will be 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Both services are identical.
Texas German Society
Fayette County Chapter of Texas German Society will meet on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Randolph Recreation Center, located at 653. E. Pearl St. in La Grange, at 4 p.m. Members are invited to bring their favorite snack or dessert to our meeting. Visitors are always welcome.
CDA No.1962 Meeting
CDA Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum will be meeting on Monday, Jan. 23 in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewcz Center in La Grange at 6:30 p.m. You may bring a small cube box of Kleenex as a donation for the nursing home residents if you like. New members are always welcome.
Free Garden Tours
Plum Fabulous Farm will be hosting a free garden tours on Monday, Jan. 23 at 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The tour includes a 45 minute workshop, followed by a tour of the garden and compost areas. Online Winedale Talk On Tuesday, Jan. 24 at noon, historian Mike Vance will present “Selections from Mike Vance’s Historical True Crime in Texas.” This talk is based on his book Murder and Mayhem in Houston and will highlight several famous cases found in his book. La Grange Garden Club Meeting The La Grange Garden Club will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26 at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl St. The meeting will feature a program by Daniel Lewis of the Texas Forest Service providing information for the best trees for this area, caring for trees and recognizing tree diseases. Dinner And A Movie
The Casino Arts Association Board is hosting Dinner & A Movie Night on Jan. 28, “Monuments Men” is being shown at the Historic Casino Hall with doors opening at 5 p.m. A dinner of fried pork steaks, red cabbage, double-baked potatoes, rolls and peach cobbler will be served before the start of the movie. The total cost for the movie and dinner is $18. The movie is based on a true story! As World War II winds down, a crew of art historians and museum curators race against time to recover works of art stolen by the Nazis. Wild Game Supper & Big Buck Contest Need a new 4 x 4 ranger or a gun? Drawings for guns and a ranger will be held at the Wild Came Supper on Saturday, Jan. 28 at the K of C Hall in Hallettsville. Tickets are available at Hoffers Drive-in Grocery, Rainosek’s True Value, and at the K of C Hall now and on Saturday. See this years’ fantastic results of the Big Buck Contest. Doors open at 5 p.m. and supper is served from 5:30 untill 11 p.m. There will be an abundance of expertly prepared crawfish, deer, hog, dove, duck, wild rice, duck gumbo, Lavaca County Sausage, wild pinto beans, all marinated and prepared by head cook Brother Richard Henke and Lavaca County prestigious Wild Game Chefs. Gifted and Talented Nominations
La Grange ISD is taking nominations for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2023-2024 school year. The Talent Pool and LEAP programs are designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers, and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD in 1st -11th grade to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the LEAP program. Nomination forms are available on the La Grange ISD website under “Inside LGISD, Gifted & Talented.” All nominations are due by Feb. 1.
