Square Dance Club

The La Grange Roadrunners Square Dance Club is opening the doors on Jan. 17 and again on Jan. 24 for new dancers to come visit and see if they can learn to square dance. This is “Fun Nights’’ where the club gets to introduce new people to the fun of square dancing. Square dancing is enjoyed by all ages. It is great exercise for the brain, memory and coordination. Classes will be held from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. beginning on Tuesday, Feb. 7. Once classes begin, plan on being there each Tuesday for twenty weeks. Square dancing in held at the Randolph Recreation Center located at 653 E. Pearl St. in La-Grange.

GriefShare Series

Immanuel Lutheran Church is sponsoring a special 14-week series called GriefShare for anyone mourning the death of a loved one. The sessions will be held Thursday, Jan. 19 through Thursday, April 20, 6-8 p.m. in the small meeting room in the Fellowship Hall of Immanuel Lutheran Church, located at 300 Grimes, in Giddings. Republican Women

The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Jan. 19 at the La Grange City Hall, 155 E. Colorado in La Grange. Speaker will be Jonathan Covey, Director of Policy for Texas Values. He will be discussing legislative priorities, such as Save Women’s Sports, gender modification, and pornography in schools. There’s more The La Grange Show Fund is holding its annual fun night on Jan. 21 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Fair Pavilion Hall at the La Grange Fairgrounds. Ribeyes and sides, (dine in/to go) will be offered for $50 each. There will be a live auction as well as other activities to partake in. If interested, tickets can be purchased at Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange or contact a show fund member.

Blood Drive in Fayetteville

The Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus are sponsoring a blood drive on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Fayetteville. The mobile unit will be at the Old Fire Station beginning at 8 a.m. until noon. Curbside Bulk Trash Pickup

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 21 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/dryers, barbecues, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tree limbs, tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. Food Truck in Waldeck

The Central Texas Food Truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the Junction of FM 1291 and FM 2145 on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 10 until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walkup method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags and boxes. A few wagons will be furnished by CTFB, but if a client has their own wagon, please bring it.

Chili Cook Off

The 18th Round Top Family Library Chili Cook-Off is Saturday, Jan. 21 beginning at noon at the Stone Cellar in Round Top, with music by the Black Cat Choir. Tickets are $10 and children under 12 are free. If you want to cook, apply online at www.ilovetoread.org or pick up an application at the library. All proceeds benefit the Round Top Family Library.

Haw Creek Cemetery Assoc.

The Haw Creek Cemetery Association will meet on Sunday, Jan 22, at 4 p. m. in the home of Reese and Darla Schmidt, 3107 FM 954, Fayetteville.

St. Cecilia’s Round Top

St. Cecilia’s Round Top Episcopal Church is adding a second service starting Jan. 22. Service times will be 8:45 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Both services are identical.

Texas German Society

Fayette County Chapter of Texas German Society will meet on Monday, Jan. 23 at the Randolph Recreation Center, located at 653. E. Pearl St. in La Grange, at 4 p.m. Members are invited to bring their favorite snack or dessert to our meeting. Visitors are always welcome.

Gifted and Talented Nominations

La Grange ISD is taking nominations for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2023-2024 school year. The Talent Pool and LEAP programs are designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers, and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD in 1st -11th grade to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the LEAP program. Nomination forms are available on the La Grange ISD website under “Inside LGISD, Gifted & Talented.” All nominations are due by Feb. 1.
