La Grange High School and Middle School Libraries will be hosting a book fair Monday, Nov. 28 through Dec. 2 at the high school library. Signs will be posted. Books for all ages available. Hours are 8 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. Nov. 28 and 29; 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. Nov. 30, 8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. Dec. 1; and 8 a.m until 1:30 Dec. 2. On Wednesday, Nov. 30, Santa will be visiting the library book fair and the La Grange High School Technology class will be taking free pictures with Santa. Bring your children that day from 4:45 until 6 p.m.
Tamale Fundraiser
Fresh homemade pork or cheese with jalapeno tamales will be available for $15 a dozen on Thursday, Dec. 1 from 5-8 p.m. during Schmeckenfest at 245 W. Travis St in La Grange. American Legion
The next monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary will occur on Thursday, Dec. 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend as the post continues to evaluate outstanding items and begins budgetary planning for the calendar year of 2023.
There’s more Entering into its 16th year, Schmeckenfest is a true community event, which attracts visitors to the square to sample over 29 different types of wassail (hot cider) made by various business owners and community leaders. The wassail competition brings the allure of the coveted honor of being named Schmeckenmeister. An honor which lasts until the next Schmeckenfest festival. This small-town Christmas festival also includes music, delicious treats sold by local nonprofit organizations; and let’s not forget a visit from Santa. The festivities begin on Thursday, Dec. 1 with a Christmas parade by the lighting of the County Christmas tree on the Courthouse lawn. There will be kids activities and face painting. There are also a number of Christmas card worthy photo opportunities around the square, as well as pictures with Santa. This is a free event. FaycoBeeks Meeting
The Fayette County Beekeepers Association (FaycoBeeks) will have their next meeting on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Fayette County Agriculture Building in La Grange, located at 255 Svoboda Ln. The meeting will start at 4:30 p.m. with Beekeeping 101 for new beekeepers. A potluck dinner will follow at 5:30 p.m. and guests are welcome to bring their favorite sides/desserts. Following dinner will be club business, including election of club officers all positions are open for nominations. If you are thinking of starting into beekeeping, this is a perfect time to start planning because the best time to set up new hives is in the spring come and visit with experienced beekeepers who are happy to share their knowledge and experience. Regular club meetings are the first Saturday of even-numbered months (December, February, etc.). If you’d like to join FaycoBeeks, membership is $25/year (individual or family). Hermann Sons Christmas Party
Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have their Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 3 starting at 5:30 p.m. A meal will be served and members are asked to bring a dessert or snacks. Santa will arrive at 7 p.m.
The Polar Express at Carmine Hall
The Carmine Chamber of Commerce 38th annual Christmas Fest with the theme “The Polar Express” will be held on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Carmine Hall, located at 300 Hauptstrasse, Carmine. Beef stew and hamburgers will be served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., dine-in or to-go. Tickets are sold at the door for $12. They may also be purchased in advance at Carmine State Bank or from any Chamber of Commerce board member. A musical program, “The Holly Jolly Pirates of Pinataville!” will be presented by RT-C Elementary School students at 1:30 p.m. Pre-K through eighth grade students are invited to enter a Holiday Craft Contest. Our ancestors often made Christmas decorations from the most interesting materials that were readily available. The only restrictions are no food and no bigger than 14” X 14” (height doesn’t matter). Age groups will be divided equally among the number of entries. Prizes in each age group, which were graciously donated by each business include: 1st place-2 Horseshoe Junction passes with Game Cards; 2nd place-Westwood Movie Theatre passes with $5; and 3rd place-$10 gift certificate to Village Market. The Nutcracker Ballet
Round Top Festival Institute will once again present Tchaikovsky’s holiday classic ballet, The Nutcracker. This year’s production celebrates the 14th annual performance danced by Ovation Ballet Company, a youth ballet company in residency at Dancers Workshop in Austin. The legendary ballet will be one show only at the Round Top Festival Institute Concert Hall on Saturday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m. Tickets on sale at Round Top Festival Institute’s website at festivalhill.org.
Christmas Dinner & dance
Sacred Heart Catholic Parish will have a fundraiser benefitting the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church rebuilding fund. The Christmas Dinner & Dance will be Saturday, Dec. 10 at the Knights of Columbus Community Center in La Grange. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. followed by a social hour, dinner, and dance. Music will be provided by DJ, Krazy Kirb (Kirby). Tickets are $35 each and VIP tables for 8 are $350.
