Tire Disposal

Fayette County will hold a tire disposal event on Monday, Nov. 7 and Wednesday, Nov. 9. Tire collection locations will be at the Pct. 2 Road and Bridge Yard in Round Top (2339 S. SH 237) and the Pct. 4 Road and Bridge Yard in Schulenburg (1801 W. US Hwy. 90). Disposal fees are $2 each for car and passenger truck tires, $10 each for large truck tires (18-wheeler type), and $20 each for tractor tires. Tires larger than 17.5x25 will not be accepted.

Food Truck

The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at St. John in Fayetteville on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m. It is a drive-thru distribution with clients remaining in their vehicle.

Fajita Dinner

The Catholic Union of Texas, KJT Society No. 46 La Grange is hosting their annual drive-thru only chicken fajita dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the La Grange KC Center from 4:30-6 p.m. Advanced tickets will be sold at the KJT Home Office located at 214 E. Colorado St. in La Grange or call (979) 968-5877. Limited tickets will be available at the drive-thru. Tickets are $12 each. Proceeds to benefit the Queen of the Holy Rosary Church Hostyn Building Fund. Sacred Heart School will hold a bake sale to benefit Sacred Heart School with a matching grant from the KJT Home Office.

American Legion, Auxiliary Meeting

The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. The Auxiliary members are reminded that the 2023 membership dues are now due and may be paid at this meeting. Items on the agenda will include the distribution of the Buddy Poppies to the volunteers who will be distributing them to various locations in the area on Thursday, Nov. 10 in observance of Veterans’ Day on Nov. 11. Also, a discussion will be held on ways of remembering our Veterans in local facilities during the Christmas season. Member attendance is encouraged. The Post and Auxiliary invite new potential members to attend. A light meal will be served.

Veterans’s Recognition Program

A Veteran’s Day recognition will be held Thursday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at 1215 N. Von Minden St. There will be cake and ice cream to celebrate Veteran’s, as well as speakers to discuss VA Home Care Assistance and Medicaid information to avoid spending all your money. Both should be very interesting speakers. All Veterans and those interested are welcome.

Fayette Co. Democratic Party Meeting

Marine Corps Ball Scholarship Winners

The Colorado Valley Detachment No. 1028 of the Marine Corps League will honor 19 scholarship winners at this year’s annual Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 11. Over the past 10 years, the Harvey D. Dannhaus Memorial Scholarship has been awarded to 19 graduates from La Grange, Schulenburg, Fayetteville, Brenham and Carmine High Schools. The winners include Bryn Colon, Adam Faske, Liberty Bell Killion, Trevor Beyer, Michael-Leah Ruth Hart, Katie Gray, Brayden Duarte, Ashley Pesl, Hailey Machac, Justin Shimek, VictoriaKate Hart, Jamison Davis, Garrison Mueller, Caleb Parks, Brandon Muske, Brittani Craft, Katie Faulk, James Robinson and Bailey Rose Karisch. The Marine Corps Ball will celebrate its founding 247 years ago. The community is invited to join the birthday dinner on Friday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Texas Czech Heritage Center. Veterans Day Programs

AllVeterans are invited to join La Grange ISD on Friday, Nov.11 for the La Grange High School and Middle School programs.The program begins at 10:45 a.m. at the high school gym located at 820 S. Vail and the La Grange Elementary program will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center located at 650 E. Travis St. in La Grange.

St. James BBQ & Bake Sale

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from H-E-B. A half chicken $5 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the “Holy Smokers” St. James Men’s Club.

Osage Community Cemetery Meeting

The annual meeting of Osage Community Cemetery, Inc. will be held at the cemetery at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12 with a potluck lunch to follow. Please bring a dish to share with the group. Plates, napkins, flatware and water will be provided for the lunch. There will be important decisions to make about the tree limb situation causing maintenance problems. Bake Sale in Ellinger

The Ellinger Walkers will be hosting a bake sale to support Kaycee Roesler on Saturday, Nov. 12 at Hruska’s in Ellinger beginning at 7 a.m. until baked goods are sold. Kaycee was diagnosed with Multipe Myeloma, a rare blood cancer. Funds raised will assist her in financing her medical treatment.

Bluebonnet Lions Cheeseballs

The La Grange Bluebonnet Lions Club is once again taking preorders for their famous Cheeseballs. Cheeseballs will be $12 each and will be made Nov. 12 at First United Methodist Church-Fellowship Hall, 1215 N. Von Minden. Pick up from 10-11:30 a.m. at the drive through outside the fellowship hall. Remember, they freeze well and taste great. Proceeds benefit local charities as well as Lions International. Feed The Need

Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.

Bingo for Seniors

The Ledbetter Community Center will have bingo for 60 and older plus guests on Sunday, Nov. 13 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. and $5 card covers 10 plus games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips, snacks and drinks are available for a free will donation. The money collected is used for purchase of prizes and other expenses. The Bingo schedule is Nov. 13, Dec. 11 and Jan. 8. Arts and Crafts Show in Schulenburg

The Holiday in the Country Arts and Crafts Show presented by the Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will be held Sunday, Nov. 13. The doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Schulenburg Hall (formally known as the Schulenburg KC Hall) located at 405 South St. in Schulenburg. There will be handmade crafts, Christmas décor, baked goods, Scentsy products, tupperware, wood crafts, plants, crosses, wine décor and gift bags, aprons, jewelry, purses, and more. There will be door prizes throughout the da, but you must be present to win. Food and drinks will be available.

Holy Cross Fried Chicken Dinner

The Holy Cross Couple’s Club will have their annual fried chicken dinner on Sunday, Nov. 20. The event is drive-thru only from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds in Warda. Tickets are $12 and are available in the Holy Cross Church office orfrom La Grange Chevron or Carol and J.C. Schramm. Deadline to get tickets is Monday, Nov.14.

Fayette County Retired Teachers Meet

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet on Nov. 14 at the First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 1215 Von Minden in La Grange. There will be a silent auction to benefit the TRS Foundation. Members are asked, but not required, to bring items for the auction. Fellowship time is 1:30 p.m. with the meeting and auction to begin at 2 p.m. While the association implies only teachers, all personnel are invited, whether from another city, county, or state. Winedale Talks

Winedale Talks will continue on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. with author Steve Moore. He will present an online talk entitled “Rangers of the Revolution.” He will discuss the role of the Texas rangers during the Texas Revolution. La Grange Noon Lions Club Meeting

The La Grange Noon Lions will meet from 12 noon until 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club located at 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange on Thursdays. The program for Nov. 10 will be Pam Orsak, with Columbus Eye regarding Lions and its eyeglass program. On Nov. 17, the Past District Governor Thom Holt, District Chair of Leader Dog for the Blind, will be leading the program.

Parkinson’s Support Group Meeting

The November meeting of the Fayette Area Parkinson’s Support Group will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17. In keeping with the group’s guidelines, this falls on the third Thursday of the month. The meeting begins at 10 a.m. and will dismiss at 11 a.m. to simplify planning for senior citizens. Individuals diagnosed as having Parkinson’s, their families and caregivers, and basically anyone who has an interest in finding out more about this debilitating illness is welcome. The group has members who are past the point of strenuous physical exercise; discussion of personal experiences and knowledge of area physicians and medications make up a part of each meeting’s discussion. No prior contact is necessary; anyone is welcome to attend. The meeting room is next to the gym at the Randolph Recreation Center on Pearl St. in La Grange. Pie Sale at Faith Lutheran

Faith Lutheran High School will have a pie sale along with the fried chicken dinner on Sunday, Nov. 20. Pick up at the Holy Cross Picnic Grounds from 10:30 a.m. till noon. All pies are a generous 10-inch size and deep-dish. Pre-orders only. Pecan pies are $30 each and pumpkin pies are $20 each. Thanksgiving Barbecue Turkeys

La Grange Knights of Columbus Council No. 2574 will be taking pre-orders for barbecue turkeys for Thanksgiving. The turkeys are 16-20 lbs. and cost $60.
