St. James BBQ
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue Saturday, July 9, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. price is reduced. A half chicken is $5 and sausage link $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter. The barbecue will open at 10:30 a.m. with no drive through pre-orders prior to 10:30 a.m.
Zwahr Benefit
Zwahr Memorial Benefit Meal on Saturday, July 9 at the KC Hall in La Grange. $15 per ticket. BBQ pork dinner with buttered potatoes, green beans, bread, and tea. Plates are dine in or take out only (no drive thru). Doors open at 5 p.m. with meal at 6 p.m. There will be music, and both silent and live auctions. Parlor Games
Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host historic games in the parlor room of the Kreische House on Saturday and Sunday, July 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Travel back in time and join the sites’ educator to learn about some of the most popular German-Texan games of the late 1800s. Bingo for Seniors in Ledbetter
Ledbetter Community Center will have Bingo for seniors 60 and older plus guests on Sunday, July 10 and Aug. 14 from 2 until 4 p.m. A $5 dollar card covers ten plus games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips and snacks will be available for a free will donation. This is a non-profit event and money collected will be used for purchase of prizes and other expenses.
Country Gospel Hour
Come enjoy free live music at the Country Gospel Hour on Sunday, July 10 from 4-5 p.m. at the historic Lyric Theater on S. Main in Flatonia. All are welcome.

Vacation Bible School
First Baptist Church of Schulenburg invites children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grades to Vacation Bible School on July 11-15, from 8:30 until 11:30 a.m. each day. La Grange Farm Bureau
The La Grange Farm Bureau is having their annual dinner and meeting on Tuesday, July 12 at the Fayette County Fairgrounds EH Kitchen. Social begins at 6 p.m. and meal at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the Fayette County Farm Bureau office.
American Legion, Auxiliary Meeting
The American Legion Post No. 102 and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 13 at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive in La Grange. Installation of the 2022-2023 Officers for the Post will take place. Members are encouraged to attend and give their support to the newly installed officers. A light meal will be served following the meeting.
Vacation Bible School in Ledbetter

KJT Pork Steak Dinner
The Hostyn KJT Society No. 3 will hold their annual drive-thru fundraiser on Wednesday, July 13 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the La Grange KC Community Center. The barbecue pork steak dinner will include buttered noodles, vegetable blend, pickle spear and a roll for $12 a plate. A bake sale will also be held to benefit the youth at Hostyn and Plum Parishes, with matching funds provided by the KJT home office. Shakespeare Returns to the Country
After a two-year recess for COVID, University of Texas Shakespeareans have set up camp in Fayette County and are well underway exploring Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” and “Macbeth.” Camp Shakespeare is a junior version of the University of Texas Shakespeare at Winedale program, offering two two-week sessions per summer for 11-16 year olds. Each play will have three public performances. Macbeth: Friday, July 15, 3:30 p.m., Crystal Theater, Gonzales; Saturday, July 16, 3 p.m., La Grange ISD Performing Arts Center; and Sunday, July 17, 2 p.m. Theater Barn, Winedale. Community Blood Drive
There will be a community blood drive on the square in Fayetteville on Saturday, July 16 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. The drive is sponsored by the Fayetteville/Ellinger Knights of Columbus. Everyone is invited to participate because there is always a need for the gift of life. Drop ins are welcome. LG Summer Soccer Camp
The LG Soccer Camp for boys and girls in grades kindergarten through 8th grade (for 2022-23 school year) will take place on July 18-20. Drive-Thru Barbecue Chicken
A drive-thru dinner benefitting the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be held Thursday, July 21 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the La Grange KC Community Center. The cost is $12/plate for a half barbecue chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, and corn. Tickets are available at the animal shelter located at 240 Svoboda Ln. and Fayette Savings Bank. If you’re interested in buying tickets, there will be several volunteers out and about selling tickets. Vacation Bible School
First United Methodist Church in La Grange invites children in K-5th grade to join for VBS on Monday, July 25 through Thursday, July 28 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Parents can register online at https://www.lgfumc.org or by calling the church at (979) 968-8323. Transportation provided upon request. A full lunch will be provided and families are invited to eat with their VBS children. This year’s theme is Glow in the Dark. Kids learn life can sometimes be scary, but it’s nothing the light of Jesus can’t fix.

The 17th Annual Tri-County Friends of the NRA will be held Friday, July 29 at the Schulenburg KC Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. for games, raffles, live auction and fun for all.
