BBQ Pork Dinner

The La Grange Baseball Association will have the 19th annual fundraiser dinner on Thursday, April 16 at La Grange KC Hall. Barbecue pork, German potatoes, pinto beans, and coleslaw will be served, drive thru only from 4:30-6 p.m., for $15 per plate. Proceeds to benefit restoration of ball park at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at La Grange Farm and Ranch, Round Top State Bank, Knights of Columbus Insurance, and La Grange Chevron Gas Station.

Republican Women

The Fayette County Republican Women will host Mr. Jerry Moerbe of Bleiblerville, at their April 15 general meeting. Mr. Moerbe is a 50-year veteran of the Texas Oil and Gas industry and will discuss his grassroots effort to reform the Texas Railroad Commission. His primary focus is to protect landowners from abandoned wells and shield taxpayers from billions in “shadow debt” caused by inadequate industry bonding. The meeting will be at Frisch Auf! Country Club on Wednesday, April 15 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. The meeting is free to attend. Lunch is available for $20. All are welcome. RSVP at fcrwtx.org.

Proper Flag Disposal Drop Off Locations

The Texas Heroes Museum located at 171 S. Main in La Grange accepts old flags for proper disposal. The drop-off bin is inside the museum which is open 1-4 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. If leaving flags outside the door when the museum is closed, please put them in a plastic bag or a box so that they are not laying on the ground.

Democratic Party Gathering

A Democratic party neighbors gathering will be held Thursday, April 16 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. at La Marina Mexican Restaurant, 1502 State Hwy. 71, in La Grange. Whether you are new to the area or a longtime resident, this is a wonderful chance to get to know your community better. Why not bring a friend or neighbor along with you, too.

Immigration to Texas in the 19th Century

Colorado County author and historian, James C. Kearney, Ph.D. will present a program about the waves of early immigrants to our area on Thursday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fayette Public Library meeting room, 855 South Jefferson, La Grange. Use the rear entrance on Franklin Street. The program will examine the factors in Europe that led so many to leave family and friends, as well as the reasons they were attracted to Texas rather than other parts of the U.S.

La Grange Senior Citizens Meeting 

The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center will hold its spring business meeting and luncheon on Thursday, April 16 at the Randolph Recreation Center Gym. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Those who register before the start of the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. will be entered in the door prize. Following the business meeting, guest speaker, Larry Jackson, will provide information about the plans in Fayette County for celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday. Lunch will follow his presentation. Anyone 50 and older is invited to attend. Lunch is $5 for members and $10 for non members. Attendees are encouraged to wear red, white, and/or blue.

Garden Club Caladium Bulb & Plant Sale 

Ready to get some color in your garden for spring and summer? The La Grange Garden Club’s annual caladium bulb and plant sale has just what you need on April 17 and April 18 at the Faison House on Jefferson St. (across from the Library). Large assortment of caladium colors as well as a variety of other types of plants for garden beds and containers will be available from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. each day.

Free Archery Fun Day

New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange is excited to announce a community archery program for children and youth of all skill levels. Adults welcome. On Saturday, April 18, from 10 - 11:30 a.m., New Life is hosting a free Archery Fun Day. They’ll provide everything you need including all necessary safety gear. Adult volunteers are certified instructors, trained under the USA Archery curriculum, so you can expect clear, expert guidance. Relay for Life at Lep Stadium Relay For Life of Fayette County will be held on April 18, at Leopard Stadium from 6 - 10 p.m. The Luminaria Ceremony will be at 8:30 p.m. This year’s theme is United Against Cancer. Williams Creek Cemetery Meeting Williams Creek Cemetery Association Annual Meeting and Decoration Day will be held Sunday, April 19 at 2 p.m. in the cemetery. Pot luck luncheon and fellowship to follow.

Farm Bureau Meeting

The Swiss Alp-Ammannsville-Dubina Farm Bureau will meet Tuesday, April 21, at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau meeting hall on US 77 between La Grange and Schulenburg. The social will begin at 6 p.m. with pot luck dinner to follow. The program will be a representative of Texas Ramp Project, who will inform members of their mission and how ramp recipients are chosen. Members are asked to bring a meat, vegetable, salad or dessert. Visitors are welcome. Come meet your neighbors.

VFW Post 5254 & Auxiliary to Meet On Tuesday, April 21, Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet in the VFW Post Home at the La Grange Fairgrounds; and potential members are invited to attend. The Auxiliary meets at 5 p.m. The Post and Auxiliary will enjoy a meal at 6 p.m., after which the Post meets. Members are encouraged to attend and find out what has all been happening.

The spring meeting for the West Navidad Wildife Management Association is set for Saturday, April 25, at the Rockin “W” Sale Barn on Hwy. 77 North of Schulenburg, beginning at 5 p.m. with social and bingo. A barbecue picnic will follow from 6-6:30 p.m. Bring a dessert to share. Soda, tea and water will be provided, but BYOB. Membership dues are $20. Business meeting at 7 p.m. Silent auction begins at 7:45 p.m.

St. John the Baptist Eucharistic Exhibit

St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville is hosting a Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit, April 26-May 3. Please come and visit the exhibit and learn about different recorded miracles surrounding the Holy Eucharist that have taken place throughout the world. For Catholics, the Eucharist received during Communion each week is not a symbol, it is truly Jesus’s Body and Blood under the appearance of Bread and Wine. These Eucharistic Miracles reveal the moments we are pushed beyond our faith, when the appearance has truly changed beyond Bread and Wine, visible for all to see. Hospice Brazos Valley offers a support group for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
