BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a BBQ and the Episcopal Women a bake sale on Saturday, April 11, from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. or until sold out at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B in La Grange. A half is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Meals on Wheels.
Plant Society

Fight Like a Girl
Join the Texas Quilt Museum and the Fayette County Community Theatre as they present Fight Like a Girl on April 11 at 6 p.m. and April 12 at 2 p.m. Fight Like a Girl is a bold and theatrical mosaic of monologues that bring to life the voices of women across time, culture, and circumstances. This production will feature local actresses portraying scientists, soldiers, poets, social advocates, and even a famous female pirate captain. Admission includes access to all museum exhibits and attractions and will include refreshments in the museum garden prior to the performance. Tickets are $25 and available at www.faycotheatre. com.

Hermes Family Exhibit
A new exhibit at the Fayette Heritage Museum and Archives will open with a reception at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 11. Built around items donated through the years by the Hermes family, the exhibit tells the story of Dr. William Hermes who settled in La Grange in 1855 and his descendants and the contributions they have made here. Black Jack Springs Cemetery Association
The Black Jack Springs Cemetery Association will hold its annual Decoration Day ceremony on Sunday, April 12, at 2:30 p.m. at Black Jack Springs Cemetery. The event will include a memorial service followed by a brief business meeting and fellowship. Community members are invited to attend. The Swiss Alp Dance Club is having a dance on Sunday April 12, at the Schulenburg Hall located at 405 West St. in Schulenburg. The band, The Lost Cause, will be providing live music from 2-5:30 p.m. The public is always welcome, doors open at 1 p.m.
Live Music Monday in Giddings
Live Music Monday will be held Monday, April 13 at the Lee County Senior Center located at 165 W. Republican Women Meeting
The Fayette County Republican Women will host Mr. Jerry Moerbe of Bleiblerville, at their April 15 general meeting. Mr. Moerbe is a 50-year veteran of the Texas Oil and Gas industry and will discuss his grassroots effort to reform the Texas Railroad Commission. His primary focus is to protect landowners from abandoned wells and shield taxpayers from billions in “shadow debt” caused by inadequate industry bonding. The meeting will be at Frisch Auf! The Round Top Family Library is happy to announce that they have a full program for their Open Mic Poetry night. The program is expected to last between 1 and 1 ½ hours with a reception to follow. This free event will be at the Round Top Family Library on April 16 and reading starts at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and listen to poets reading a variety of poetry. Immigration to Texas in the 19th century Colorado County author and historian, James C. Kearney, Ph.D. will present a program about the waves of early immigrants to our area on Thursday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fayette Public Library meeting room, 855 South Jefferson, La Grange. Use the rear entrance on Franklin Street. The program will examine the factors in Europe that led so many to leave family and friends, as well as the reasons they were attracted to Texas rather than other parts of the U.S.
Barbecue Pork Dinner
The La Grange Baseball Association will have the 19th annual fundraiser dinner on Thursday, April 16 at La Grange KC Hall. Barbecue pork, German potatoes, pinto beans, and coleslaw will be served, drive thru only from 4:30-6 p.m., for $15 per plate. Proceeds to benefit restoration of ball park at the Fayette County Fairgrounds. Tickets are available at La Grange Farm and Ranch, Round Top State Bank, Knights of Columbus Insurance, and La Grange Chevron Gas Station.

Garden Club Caladium Bulb & Plant Sale Ready to get some color in your garden for spring and summer? The La Grange Garden Club’s annual caladium bulb and plant sale has just what you need on April 17 and April 18 at the Faison House on Jefferson St. (across from the Library). Large assortment of caladium colors as well as a variety of other types of plants for garden beds and containers will be available from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. each day.
Curb-Side Bulk Trash Pick up The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, April 18, as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility Customers within the city limits. The city will also have roll off containers available to residential utility customers for hard to dispose of items at the City Service Center at 1040 E Eblin St. inside the yard. Customers will have to show their utility bill to be able to discard their items. New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange is excited to announce a community archery program for children and youth of all skill levels. Adults welcome. Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter
The Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will host a Volunteer Appreciation Event on Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at 255 Svoboda L. in La Grange (across the street from the shelter). The event will recognize the dedicated volunteers who support the shelter’s daily operations, from walking dogs and caring for cats to assisting with events and behind-the-scenes efforts. Community members interested in volunteering are also encouraged to attend to learn more about opportunities to get involved and make a difference for local animals in need. Muldoon VFD Fundraiser
The Muldoon Volunteer Fire Department’s fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 25 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. at 333 N. 3rd St. in Muldoon. Come and enjoy Louis Gabler’s world famous pulled pork sandwiches. Guests are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. Water and tea will be provided. Free will donations are welcome and appreciated.
