Easter Carnival
Merriam’s Midway Carnival is returning to the Fayette County Fairgrounds for Easter Weekend, April 2-4 sponsored by The La Grange Optimist Club. Carnival opens at 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday. Free admission. All-you-can-ride armbands are $20.
Good Friday Closure
The Fayette County Record office will close at noon Friday in observance of Good Friday.
Second Chance
The Second Chance sales store and donations drop off area will be closed Friday, April 3 and Saturday, April 4 in observance of Easter.
Heroes Museum
The Texas Heroes Museum will be closed Easter weekend, April 3-5. While giving thanks to our Savior, please remember to give thanks to our military personnel who defend our religious freedom.
Easter Services
New Life Methodist Church, located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange, will have a Good Friday service at 6 p.m. and two Easter Services on Sunday: traditional at 9 a.m. and contemporary at 11 a.m. Between the two services there will be fellowship time with breakfast type foods in the Fellowship Hall. Kids need to meet there to begin the Easter Egg Hunt at 10:20 a.m. Children will find eggs containing tickets to use while shopping at the Kidz Store.

For the Record on Page A2 & C4 Feed the Need, a non-profit organization whose mission is to feed people physically and spiritually, will provide free burgers every Monday at 6:30 p.m. in La Grange at the south east corner of the courthouse square. Everyone is welcome.
Lafayette Masonic Lodge Meetings

Community Prayer Gathering
Everyone is invited to the monthly Community Prayer Gathering, an area wide multi-church sponsored event, meeting the first Sunday of each month at Redimidos Por Cristo Church is located across the street from Tejas Healthcare at 131 S. Dedication of a Texas Historical Marker
The Matthew Gaines Historical Marker Dedication will be held Saturday, April 4 at 1 p.m. at the Long Life Brotherhood Club/Matson Park located at 12419 East Branch St., Burton. This event is hosted by the Long Life Brotherhood Club and the Washington County Historical Commission. Enjoy refreshments and Easter egg hunt after.
Easter on the Bluff
Kreische Brewery & Monument Hill State Historic Sites will host an Easter celebration on Saturday, April 4 from 2-7 p.m. There will be two egg hunts beginning at 5:30 p.m. for ages 4 and under and 6 p.m. for ages 5-12, along with smokehouse demos, games, and activities. Decoration Day
Rutersville Cemetery will have Decoration Day on Sunday, April 5.
American Legion Post, Auxiliary No. 102 TheAmerican Legion Post No. 102 and theAmerican Legion Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. Members are encouraged to attend and find out what’s been happening in our organizations. New potential members are always welcome. A light meal will be served, with the regular business meetings to follow.
La Grange Senior Citizen Game Day The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center Inc. will host game day on Thursday, April 9, from 9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. Herb Society Meeting in Brenham The Pioneer Unit of the Herb Society of America invites everyone to join them on April 9 at the Brenham Presbyterian Church to hear Mark Vorderbruggen of Merriwether Foraging Texas. Mark’s talk, “Your Yard Pharmacy: Medicinal Landscaping Plants,” is free and open to the public. The talk begins at 10 a.m., but come a little early for a cup of coffee or tea and meet our members. Hermann Sons Spring Fundraiser Hermann Sons Rutersville will hold a Spring fundraiser on Saturday, April 11 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the Lodge hall. Join the Texas Quilt Museum and the Fayette County Community Theatre as they present Fight Like a Girl on April 11 at 6 p.m. and April 12 at 2 p.m. Fight Like a Girl is a bold and theatrical mosaic of monologues that bring to life the voices of women across time, culture, and circumstances. This production will feature local actresses portraying scientists, soldiers, poets, social advocates, and even a famous female pirate captain. Admission includes access to all museum exhibits and attractions and will include refreshments in the museum garden prior to the performance. Tickets are $25 and available at www.faycotheatre.com.
Spring Brush Clean Up Days
The City of La Grange will have Spring Clean-Up Days in April. Residents are allowed one free load of brush (no larger than 8 ft. long, 4 ft. wide, and 4 ft. tall equal to one pickup truck load). Any additional loads will be charged on your next bill. Do not place brush over water meter boxes or near utility poles. Separate logs from branches. No trash bags of brush and do not mix brush with bulk items. Brush piles must not contain trash, leaves, lumber, or construction debris. Bagged leaves are not included in the free pickup. Residents must call City Hall to schedule leaf pickup for a fee. Schedule is as follows: April 13 and 14 - South Side of the City (Travis St. - Hwy. 71 Bus.); April 15 and 16 North Side of the City; April 17 - Cedar Creek and Riverside. April is National Poetry Month
The Round Top Family Library Bookclub is organizing an Open Mic Poetry evening with a reception to follow. The evening is open for poets of all ages to read one of their own poems. Time permitting, a reading of a favorite poem will be accepted. Content should be suitable for young ears, subject may be adult. Theatrical Summer Camp
The Fayette County Community Theatre and the Arts for Rural Texas announce their student theatrical summer camp to be held June 1-5. Two camps will be available. The camp for elementary students (1st through 6th grade) will run from 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and the camp for middle and high school students (7th through 12th grade) will run from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Both camps will be held at the Performing Arts Center located on the La Grange Elementary School campus. Enrollment is set to open April 7 and registration will be through the Arts Through Rural Texas (ARTS) summer camp site.
Habitat For Humanity ReStore
Fayette County Habitat for Humanity ReStore is open for sales and donation drop-offs every Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at 825 N. Main St. in Schulenburg. The ReStore sells and accepts donations of home goods to support Habitat’s mission. Visit www.fchfh.org/ReStore.
