Rebecek Honored With HeRO Award at St. Mark’s
St. Mark’s Medical Center (St. Mark’s) is proud to announce Donna Rebecek, BSN, RN, CEN Surgical Services, as its December 2022 HeRO (High Reliability Organization) award winner.
A HeRO demonstrates commitment to quality and safety by putting processes in place to make it easy for individuals to take the correct step every time, avoiding errors in an environment that is at risk for missteps, and allowing for high productivity and effectiveness. Key principles include communication; mutual support; leadership; and situation monitoring.
Rebecek’s nomination included several points demonstrating her support of HeRO principles, including:
• Questioning attitude that fosters situation awareness, encouraging thought about safety before action is taken.
• Protocol and procedure adherence and updating that ensure consistent practices of current safety and compliance requirements.
• Positive attitude for working where the need is greatest, assisting coworkers to promote effectiveness and productivity.
• Leadership and mentorship of newer nurses and nursing students, helping them gain practical knowledge.
“We are impressed with Donna’s efforts and commitment to ensuring our patients receive the very best care,” said St. Mark’s President and CEO Mark Kimball. “Recognizing her for going the extra mile allows us to showcase behaviors to inspire all of our employees.”
The HeRO Recognition program began at St. Mark’s in 2022, and draws from peer nominations of employees who exhibit performance consistent with HeRO principles. HeRO award winners are celebrated at St. Mark’s and awarded a gift card for their efforts.
“The HeRO Recognition program continues to be a great component of our employee recognition,” said St. Mark’s Chief Clinical Officer Tammy Hartfield. “Employees have specific guiding principles to remind them of best practices, and are rewarded for influencing overall outcomes. It’s a win-win,” she added.
