Public Hearing on County Budget Set for Thursday
Fayette County Commissioners will hold a public hearing over the proposed 2023 County Budget this Thursday, Aug. 25, at 1:30 p.m. The hearing will take place in the Commissioners Courtroom on the third floor of the Fayette County Courthouse in La Grange. Under the proposed budget, the County will spend more than it receives in revenue next year.
Commissioners have proposed expenses of $28,565,156.96. Projected revenue stands at 28,325,224.44 for next year. That leaves a spending deficit of roughly $240,000, which will be paid for with money left over from last year.
Commissioners have proposed lowering the property tax rate from $0.464 per $100 to $0.44219 per $100. However, taxes for the average property owner will increase next year due to rising property values. A public hearing for the tax rate will take place at a later date.
