Praise for Black History Event
Organizers of the Black History Month Celebration in Schulenburg last weekend wished to thank everyone who attended despite the cold weather.
“Last year we only had about 20 people, and this year there were probably about 150 who came out,” said Robert Moore, one of the main event organizers. “A lot more came out even though it was cold weather. There was so much love in the community.
“I want to thank everybody who helped out,” Moore added. “There were probably about 50 people who donated money for us to put on the meal. I appreciate everyone who got wood for the barbecue and got up early to get the meal ready. There are too many people to thank and I don’t want to leave anyone out.”
Moore praised Cathy Runnels for organizing the program at Wolters Park last Saturday, especially for highlighting the accomplishments of local youth in the African-American community.
Moore said organizers plan to hold the event every year on the third Saturday in February. He said the organizers are also planning events in the area for Juneteenth and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
