Power Outage Caused by Fallen Pole
More than 1,000 customers of Fayette Electric Cooperative lost power Sunday morning, Sept. 2, after a pole fell down near McDonald’s in La Grange.
La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said a call came in around 2:41 a.m. reporting a pile on fire. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department responded and found the pole on the ground and the transformers burning, which started a small grass fire.
Firefighters put out the grass fire first while Fayette Electric disconnected the power.
“It looks like it just fell over or broke off,” Menefee said.
Menefee said there was no evidence at the scene to indicate a vehicle accident.
Firefighters cleared the scene around 5:17 a.m. Electric crews remained on scene through Sunday morning repairing the pole. The incident caused an outage that affected an estimated 1,033 FEC customers in the Riverside, Frisch Auf and Cozy Corner areas, according to the FEC Facebook page.
FEC reported that power was restored around 5:39 a.m.
