The kindergarten class at La Grange Elementary went on a field trip to National Bank and Trust on Tuesday, March 31. Every year NBT offers the “Penny Pincher” program to La Grange kindergarteners to teach them about banking and money.

NBT President Scott Mc-Manus welcomed the students to the bank. He spoke to them about some of the services that the bank provides. The students then went in groups to the different parts of the bank, such as the teller station, loan department, vault and the board room.

Students practiced signing their name on deposit slips in exchange for a bag of shredded money. They sat inside a vault and learned about safe deposit boxes. They learned about needs and wants when it comes to lending money from the loan department. They even got to pull up a seat in the board room where bank leaders make big decisions.
