Not Many Contested City/School Races Ahead

The deadline for candidates to file for a place on the ballot in municipal and school board elections was last Friday, Feb. 13. There will be a few contested races around the County. Election day is May 2. Incumbents are indicated by (i).

City of La Grange

Four seats on the City Council are up for election this year and three of them are unopposed. There will be a threeway race for Ward 3:

• Ward 1 - Kathy Weishuhn (i)

• Ward 2 - Dylan Schlotterbeck • Ward 3 - Kimberly Newton (i), Pam Giese and Gene Carson • Ward 4 - Bryan Kerr City of Schulenburg

Three seats are up for election this year, and the race for Place 4 is contested:

• Place 3 - Roger Moellenberndt (i)

• Place 4 - Clarence Ahlschlager (i) and Randy Mican

• Place 5 - Kathy Kleiber (i) City of Flatonia

The election will be cancelled since there are no contested races. Mayor Travis Seale is running unopposed. Two seats on the Council are up for election, and two people are running:

• Allen Kocian (i)

• Juan “Beto” Manzano City of Fayetteville

Three seats on the City Council are up for election with two unopposed. There will be an election for Place 3:

• Place 1 - Allen Jurecka (i)

• Place 3 - John Heimsath and Todd Campbell

• Place 5 - Debra Lincke

Town of Round Top

Mayor Judith Vincent is unopposed. Two at-large seats on the Council are up for election, and three candidates are running:

• Lou Ann Phillips (i)

• David Barr

• Brooke Michie City of Carmine

The mayor and two council seats are up for election. All are unopposed:

• Mayor - Wade Eilers (i)

• Position 2 - Kevin Woelfel (i)

• Position 4 - Susan Bathe (i) City of Ellinger

The City of Ellinger will not have a contested election. One commissioner seat is up for election this year. The incumbent, Kenneth Stojanik, will not seek re-election. Ellinger resident Richard Minar filed to run for that seat and he is unopposed.

La Grange ISD

Two seats are up for election and both are unopposed:

• Place 4 - Gary Drab (i)

• Place 5 - Curt Harbers (i) Schulenburg ISD

Three at-large seats are up for election, and six candidates have filed:

• Troy Brenek (i)

• Hale Hentges (i)

• Dwayne Bartek

• Lisa Goodlander

• Johnnie Demel

• Alex Seydler Flatonia ISD

Two seats are up for election with one unopposed:

• Place 4 - Ashley Beeman (i)

• Place 5 - LaVerne Dornak (i) and Cassandra Suhr Fayetteville ISD

The election will be cancelled since there are no contested races.

• Place 1 - Lisa Simpson (i)

• Place 4 - Kayla Kaspar

• Place 5 - Colby Havel (i) Round Top-Carmine ISD No one is up for election on the Round Top-Carmine ISD school board; their elections take place on odd-numbered years.
