A scammer tricked DeWitt County out of $305,301 in what is believed to be the first cyber crime ever committed against the county. A county employee responded to an email seeking to change bank account information, leading to the money being sent from the county to an unverified bank account opened by a Nigerian citizen.

The Bellville ISD school board approved the request of Superintendent Nicole Poenitzsch to teach the AP English 3 class at Bellville High School this year in addition to fulfilling her superintendent duties. “I miss the connection with the kids,” Poenitzsch said. “We are asking a lot of our teachers and it’s hard to feel credible (as superintendent) and asking them to do some of those things when I haven’t been in the classroom in several years.”
