Fayette County Judge Dan Mueller and Fayette County Emergency Management Coordinator Angela Hahn convened a meeting of Fayette County Leaders on Wednesday, January 4. The meeting took place at the EMS building in La Grange. Several Mayors, City Managers and Elected Officials including Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek as well as the Police Chiefs of La Grange, Schulenburg and Flatonia were in attendance.

Volunteer Firemen from across the County were also in attendance. Angela Hahn discussed the Mitigation Plans for Fayette County.

Mitigation plans identify the natural hazards and risks that can impact a community based on historical experience, estimate the potential frequency and magnitude of disasters, and assess potential losses to life and property. Those plans are used to help county and community leaders prioritize those risks and make plans to address them. The plans are also used when grant funding becomes available.

County Judge Dan Mueller said, “The County will focus on natural hazards which include things such as floods, fires and winter storms.”

The leaders will meet again in February to discuss ways to mitigate those natural hazards and ways local agencies can deal with those risks.
