The Images of America book series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage making history available to all. “Images of America: African Americans of Round Top” is written by David L. Collins Sr. Collins is a civil engineer who lives in a suburb of Houston. An avid researcher, Collins is passionate about preserving African American history in Lee, Bastrop, and Fayette Counties.

Round Top’s African American pioneers came into Texas in 1825 when Stephen F. Austin brought in 300 Anglo Americans, and the people they enslaved, for the purpose of colonizing the area. After the Civil War ended the descendants of these original Round Top pioneers began building their own community.
