Nearly 200 Families Get ‘Gobble Kits’ For Thanksgiving From Feed the Need
Feed the Need Mission of La Grange gave out about 200 turkeys to local families at their regular hamburger night on the La Grange Square Monday, Nov. 21.
“It’s about providing food to meet physical needs and it’s also about having conversations and spreading the Good News of Jesus Christ,” said Dr. Jeremy Finch, the local Feed The Need coordinator.
Every Monday, the group grills hamburgers on the Courthouse Square in La Grange. They serve the meal from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Everyone in the community is welcome to the Monday hamburger nights.
“It’s really casual,” Finch said. “We pray with folks for joys and concerns, things like that.”
For the past month, Feed the Need has been signing up families for “Gobble Kits” that include a turkey and a bag of groceries to feed a family of six.
“This year we got 210 turkeys,” Finch said. “That is a few extra. We had 189 families signed up. Some of the families are big enough that they’re getting two turkeys. And then we have a few extra in case someone didn’t sign up and they come through tonight.”
A turkey shortage has impacted supplies in many parts of the nation. Finch said Feed the Need had no trouble sourcing the turkeys thanks to H-E-B of La Grange.
“We went to H-E-B and they had them for us,” Finch said. “It’s a great partnership.”
Youth from Fayette County 4-H volunteered to help distribute the turkeys at the Courthouse. Feed the Need also delivered a few gobble kits to families that couldn’t drive to the Square Monday night.
