March 21 marks the 50th anniversary of National Ag Day which is celebrated in classrooms and communities across the country. These events mark a nationwide effort to tell the true story of American agriculture and remind citizens that agriculture is a part of all of us. National Ag Day is organized by the Agriculture Council of America. The ACA is a nonprofit organization composed of leaders in the agricultural, food and fiber community, dedicating its efforts to increasing the public’s awareness of agriculture’s role in modern society. The program encourages every American to:

• Understand how food and fiber products are produced • Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products

• Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy

• Acknowledge and consider career opportunities in the agriculture, food and fiber industry Agriculture provides almost everything we eat, use and wear on a daily basis, and is increasingly contributing to fuel and other bio-products. A few generations ago, most Americans were directly involved in—or had relatives or friends involved in—agricultural- related endeavors. Today, that is no longer the case. This is one of the reasons that Navidad Valley CattleWomen and all Texas CattleWomen locals work to promote Ag Day.

To help celebrate, Navidad Valley CattleWomen donated 280 pounds of ground beef to area high schools that have Food & Consumer Science or Culinary programs. The high schools receiving donations were Hallettsville, La Grange, Rice Consolidated, Columbus, Flatonia, Schulenburg, Moulton, and Round Top-Carmine. Additionally, Cattle-Women distributed recipes and information on the importance of quality protein being incorporated into one’s daily diet. The students will be utilizing the donated meat in future class assignments as guided by their teachers. The Navidad Valley CattleWomen, a local chapter of the Texas Cattlewomen, is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes the beef industry. The Navidad Valley CattleWomen works to support local youth with scholarships and provide quality information on the industry and how to incorporate beef into a healthy diet. Additionally, they work to support the community with targeted outreach projects that include a beefy twist. The next Cattle-Women business meeting will be April 26 to celebrate the 2023 scholarship recipients.
