Narcotics Unit Seizes 23 Kilos of Cocaine During Traffic Stop
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Oct. 31, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and K9 partner Kolt, stopped an 18 wheeler pulling a flatbed trailer on I-10 at the 658 mile-marker at approximately 12:45 p.m. for a traffic violation.
After speaking to the driver Sgt. Thumann observed many indicators the vehicle was being utilized to smuggle narcotics from Mexico into the U.S. Sgt., Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle.
Sgt. Thumann discovered the trailers axles had been altered to conceal contraband. Sgt. Thumann removed approximately 23 kilos of cocaine with a street value of $2.3 million dollars from the trailers axles.
The driver Carlos Enrique Ruiz Rebullosa of Monterrey, Mexico was arrested for Felony drug possession and taken to the Dan R. Beck Justice Center.
