At Monthly Board Meeting, Superintendendent Says Elementary Getting Hit Hard by Flu
At Monday’s LGISD board meeting, Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment for the district is 1,837. The breakdown by campus is:
• Elementary school - 937
• Middle school - 293
• High school - 605 He told the board that the largest class at the elementary school is 4th grade with a total of 152, the largest class at the middle school is 7th grade with 148, and the largest at the high school is the 9th grade with 168.
The ADA (average daily attendance) which is the number used to determine school funding, is 1,735.21. McHazlett told the board, “We are still getting hit with the flu, not quite as bad as right before Christmas break, but I know at the elementary campus alone we’re hitting the 80s and 90s and 100s on a daily basis with the flu.”
McHazlett reminded the board of the 2026 Academic Recognition Banquet.
He said, “This is one of the best things we do in the district. It’s going to be held on Wednesday, April 22 at the Historic Casino Hall.
“This is where we bring in the top 15% of the senior class. They nominate a teacher who’s been a huge influence for them. Their parents are there. This is just a great night to recognize kind of the best of the best as far as academics in LGISD.”
He continued, “The students are impressive. But the alumni we bring back to speak are equally as impressive.”
McHazlett reminded everyone of the upcoming school board election. Applications are being excepted from Wednesday, Jan. 14 to Friday, Feb. 13. He said that at this time there are two applicants, Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers gave a report on this district UIL academic events.
She said that all of elementary and middle school are done in January.
They began on last week. Tuesday, Jan. 20. was the first day of academic events at elementary and middle school. It was in Giddings.
She said that the next half would be on Monday, Jan. 26 provided there were no weather issues.
She continued telling the board that Middle School One Act Play dress rehearsal will be on Jan. 28 with the event is on Jan. 29. It will be held in Navasota.
High School district events start in February with CX debate on Feb. 4 with several events continuing through March.
