Menefee Appointed Interim City Manager; Bell Says Goodbye

At Monday’s La Grange City Council meeting, Council appointed Menefee as the interim city manager. Former City Manager Fred Bell resigned last week. Mayor Jan Dockery said Council will begin the search for a new city manager at their next meeting. Former La Grange City Manager Fred Bell provided a statement to the Record regarding his departure.

“While I am saddened to say goodbye to La Grange, the Council and I agreed it was in the best interest for both parties to part ways in the management of the city,” Bell said. “La Grange is a wonderful community and I want to thank the residents and businesses who welcomed me with open arms and warm hearts. I want to thank City Council and Staff for their professionalism during my tenure and I wish La Grange much success.”

Bell resigned last week at a special meeting that was called by the City Council to conduct a city manager evaluation, as stipulated in Bell’s contract. Bell had been the city manager for less than six months.
