Eddie Marburger of Round Top won the title of Schützenkönig at the 151st Annual Round Top Schützenfest on Sunday, Sept. 17.

Marburger shot a 35 in the final round of the marksmanship contest on Sunday, one point shy of a perfect score. A long-time member of the Round Top Rifle Club, Marburger won the title back in 2002 as well.

“We all had a fun time today,” Marburger said. “We had about 40 shooters come out. I have a birthday tomorrow, so this is a good birthday present.”

Club members crowned him with a cedar wreath and hoisted him in the hair to shout of “Hoch sol er leben, hoch sol er leben, drei mal hoch.” The new “king” was then obliged by tradition to tap a keg of beer and serve it to his subjects in the Rifle Hall. Round Top Brass Band provided musical entertainment during the celebration Sunday afternoon, followed by a dance with music by Gary Kunkel and Friends.
