Man Swims to Safety After Truck Rolls into Lake
A pickup truck took a dip into Lake Fayette after sliding off a boat ramp Thursday afternoon, May 4. Chief Deputy Randy Noviskie of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said the driver was attempting to load a boat onto a trailer when the accident occurred.
“He had the boat docked, and he was backing up on the ramp,” Noviskie said. “He went farther than he wanted. The trailer slid down the ramp and pulled the truck with it.”
Noviskie said the driver was alone in the pickup.
“He rolled down the windows and swam out,” Noviskie said.
Noviskie, who also serves as the Fayetteville Fire Chief, responded with the fire department. Deputy Terry Guentert also responded to assist the driver, along with Fayette County EMS and the LCRA Park Rangers. The driver was not injured.
“He was out of the water and OK when we got there,” Noviskie said.
Noviskie said the driver called a wrecker to pull his pickup from the lake and tow it away.
