Giddings Times and News The Giddings animal shelter was closed down Aug. 30-Sept. 6 after puppies that tested positive for parvo were dumped unattended at the front door. The parvo quickly spread throughout the shelter.

Yoakum Herald-Times A former probation officer is teaching a forensic science course at Yoakum High School.

Bellville Times Douglas Marek, a former longtime ag teacher at both Hallettsville and Bellville has been inducted into the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas Hall of Fame during a ceremony in Corpus Christi. Hallettsville Tribune-Herald School Attendance at Hallettsville Sacred Heart is up 16 students over last year and now stands at 291 students.

Hallettsville ISD reports a total of 1,148 students, up by 53 over last year.

Colorado County Citizen Edwin James King, 22, of Houston was shot and killed Aug. 23 in the area of Rampart and Bonham streets in Columbus. The Columbus PD is looking for leads in the case.

Several homes near Hwy. 71 in Columbus were flooded by recent heavy rains. The flooding is being blamed on drainage issues.
