Man Reports Campaign Sign Damage

A man from Engle says someone ripped a campaign sign off his fence and threw it in the ditch across the street.

The man told the Record that he had two large 4 ft. by 8 ft. campaign signs posted on his fence along Hwy. 90 in Engle. One was for a Fayette County Judge candidate and the other was for a candidate in the State House race. He noticed the sign for the State House candidate missing on Monday morning. He later found it folded in half lying in the ditch along the railroad tracks across the highway from his property.

The signs were secured to the metal pipe rail fence with multiple zip ties, he said. He does not believe the wind carried it away. The man reported the incident to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office. Unfortunately, he didn’t have any surveillance cameras set up that could have documented what happened. But he said he now plans to install some game cameras in case someone tries it again.

So far, this is the only case of campaign sign tampering reported this election cycle, according to Lt. David Beyer of the Sheriff’s Office.

Anyone caught tampering with campaign signs could face criminal charges ranging from criminal mischief to theft or even graffiti, if someone were caught defacing a campaign sign.
