Man Caught After High-Speed Chase
Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Wednesday of last week Interdiction Sgt. Randy Thumann attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2022 Porche SUV on IH-10 near the 677 mile marker west bound for a traffic infraction.
Sgt. Thumann made contact with the driver, who then drove off from the scene of the traffic stop. A pursuit was initiated, which continued onto several roads in Fayette County and in the city limits of Schulenburg. Schulenburg Police Officer Byron Powe joined the pursuit, which then headed south on FM 957, into Lavaca County and ultimately into the city limits of Hallettsville.
The Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office was successful in deploying spikes during the pursuit, in the community of Breslau. The vehicle later wrecked into a fire hydrant within the city limits of Hallettsville, on the south side of town. The driver fled from the vehicle and after a brief foot pursuit, was successfully taken into custody by Sgt. Thumann.
Sheriff Korenek reports that approximately 11 kilos of Methamphetamine was located in Schulenburg that had been dumped by the driver during the pursuit. Also seized from the suspect and vehicle, was $3,018 in US currency.
Arrested and charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Evading Arrest, is 34 year old Lamar Dareon Martin, of Hallettsville.
