Man Accidentally Shoots Himself in Knee at Store

An Odessa man accidentally shot himself in the knee in La Grange on Monday, June 19.

The incident happened at Bar G Convenience Store on SH 159 in the northeast side of town around 8:30 a.m., according to La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath.

Gilbreath said 36-yearold Luis Carmona-Benitez of Odessa was in a 2023 Dodge Ram pickup.

He said Benitez was moving a Stoeger pistol of unknown caliber from the door panel to another location inside the pickup. Gilbreath said Benitez accidentally fired the gun and a bullet struck him in the knee.

Fayette County EMS arrived on scene.

Medics treated Benitez for the gunshot and transported him to Dell Seton Hospital in South Austin. Gilbreath said the injuries were not life threatening.
