Region 13 Executive Director Rich Elsasser took the Record on a walk through of the new satellite service center which is about to open in the old Bealls building in La Grange.

The center will be used for both educator and student class and training opportunities. Elsasser said 100,000 people a year come through the doors of the Austin Region 13 headquarters for training. The goal of these satellite service centers (of which there are three new ones in Region 13, La Grange, San Marcos and Marble Falls) is to bring training opportunities closer to rural communities. Elsasser said he’d love to see about 30,000 people a year utilizing the facility in La Grange. Region 13 is working on several “classroom to career” type opportunities for the facility, which is just under 40,000 square feet and has a reception area, training rooms of all sizes, a prep kitchen and break room area, and even shower facilities in case the building ever needed to be used as an emergency shelter.
