Locals Speak Out Against Proposed Data Center

Kayli Head and her husband Derek Head of Winchester spoke at the courthouse last Thursday as they fight to keep a proposed artificial intelligence data center from being built next to their property – Piney Creek Ranch on FM 448, which has been in their family for five generations.

“It’s not just a piece of land to us,” Kayli said of the family farm. “We want Fayette County to stand up for us.”

Back in March the county commissioners court voted 4-1 to pass a resolution opposing data centers here.

The resolution doesn’t specifically give the county government any authority to regulate data centers or prevent them from being built in Fayette County. But it does express the official opinion of county leaders.

Derek followed Kayli’s comments by specifically citing concerns related to road impact during construction, drainage concerns and water usage – and the county does have some power in those areas.

Derek asked county leaders to “use every tool available to the county to stop this.”
