Storm Knocks Out Power to Hundreds in LG
Rain cascades off the roofs of the buildings along Travis St. across from the Courthouse in La Grange Tuesday, Aug. 22. Folks in some parts of Fayette County got treated to a brief shower that day as an outer band of Tropical Storm Harold passed across the area. The storm dropped most of its rain far south of here. But according to LCRA’s weather gauge on the Colorado River, 0.18 inches fell in La Grange over the course of about 15 minutes Tuesday afternoon. It wasn’t much, but it was the most precipitation seen here in months. The storm also brought some strong south winds. The storm cell that passed across La Grange Tuesday caused a power outage across the north part of town. Assistant City Manager Frank Menefee said a large tree limb fell on a three-phase primary line near Taqueria Rio Verde along US 77, which tripped an electrical breaker. Power surged, causing lights to flicker across town. The tripped breaker cut off power to approximately 300-400 electric customer for about an hour and a half. La Grange electric crews cut up and removed the tree and then repaired the fallen line before restoring power.
