In all the years St. Mark’s Medical Center has held its Thanksgiving basket drive, it has never had a response like this.

Thursday more than 130 baskets (which included a full compliment of ingredients for a complete Thanksgiving meal for a family, including at $20 gift card for turkey) were collected. It was the most baskets ever donated to the annual program. Many were coordinated

“I am overwhelmed by this kindness,” said Bernie Jackson, the Director or Community Partnership for the Family Crisis Center, which was going to distribute the baskets over the next few days to families in Fayette, Lee, Bastrop and Colorado Counties.

Jackson said in other efforts the Crisis Center has coordinated recently, giving has been less than normal, but not this effort.

“The eagerness of this hospital and this community to help others is amazing,” Jackson said.
