Locals to be Immortalized in Book – Again
Vol. 2 of Features by Newspaper Columnist Now on Sale
Readers of The Fayette County Record have enjoyed Elaine Thomas’s column “Stories I Have Been Told” since 2013 – so much that they encouraged her to publish the feature stories in a book.
With more than 100 of these personality profiles to Elaine’s credit, one book wasn’t enough, so readers have a series of these stories to look forward to and collect. Last Fall Volume 1 of the series was released. Now Vol. 2 is on sale. “This series is a priceless piece of Fayette County history, which preserves the stories of these importance local figures forever,” said Jeff Wick, editor of The Fayette County Record.
Individuals featured in volume two include: Drs. Royce & Elva Keilers, Harvey Steward, Frankie Joe Cernosek, Lila Clark, Charlie Frietsch, Dorothy Janacek, J. Weldon Koenig, Pete & Kathy Chovanec, Lee Mueller, Bernard Ripper, Audrey Huenefeld, Sanford Schmid, Marie Bittner Luecke, Eugene & Margaret Michalsky, Dorothy Bartos, Richard (Moose) Roberts, Vlasta & Lawrence Korenek, Johnnie Kobersky, Clarence and Josephine Klesel, Georgia Kovar, Marshall Windham, Bennie Beale, Marge Rosenberg, Pat Mares Keller and Glynis Tietjen Porter.
“For those of us who grew up in rural Texas, Elaine Thomas evokes wonderful memories of life on the farm and in small towns. Her stories ring true as an authentic and accurate portrayal of life in rural Texas. Almost every subject of Ms. Thomas’ stories reminded me of someone I knew in my childhood. Some brought a tear; others made me laugh. All of them inspire and encourage us,” an independent book reviewer posted on Amazon. com.
Proceeds from the sale of Stories I’ve Been Told – Volume 2 will support scholarships for local students attending Blinn College-Schulenburg just as sales revenue from volume 1 of the book series did. The cost per copy is $14, plus tax. The 215page book contains numerous photographs and illustrations, as well as a complete index. After reading Stories I’ve Been Told – Volume 2, Texas author, journalist and network broadcaster Neal Spelce says, “Elaine Thomas brings to life the people and events in rural Texas that are evocative of America itself. No doubt about it, if you like what America was built upon in the small towns of this great nation – and is still like in many places – you will be enthralled and uplifted by Elaine’s gift of these stories to you.”
Copies of Stories I’ve Been Told – Volumes 1 and 2 are available at The Fayette County Record, The Schulenburg Sticker, the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce and online at Amazon. com.
