Local Women Injured in Motorcycle Accident
A Rutersville woman suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in a motorcycle accident near her home Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 16. The crash happened around 3:15 p.m. on Ruether Rd. near the intersection of Old College Rd. According to Trooper Mason Hartnett with the Texas Highway Patrol, 68-year-old Gloria Ellis of Rutersville was driving a black 2020 Harley Davidson Tri-Glide three-wheel motorcycle south on Ruether Rd. Hartnett said Ellis slid off the road to the right. There was some loose gravel on the road.
The trike went into the ditch and through a barbed wire fence. It traveled several yards before striking a tree, coming to rest facing west.
Ellis was wearing a helmet. She suffered cuts from the barbed wire and possible broken bones. She was conscious and speaking when first responders arrived. Fayette County EMS transported her to St. David’s South Austin Medical Center. La Grange Volunteer Fire Department assisted EMS at the scene.
Ellis and her husband Jonathan are well-known in the area for helping to organize the La Grange Juneteenth Celebration each year. Jonathan Ellis told the Record his wife was driving home at the time of the crash. They live less than a half mile from the spot of the accident.
