Local Crossover to Be Closed After Series of Fatal Accidents

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has closed the SH 71 crossover on the east side of Loop 220 in Plum.

“We closed it due to several fatality crashes that occurred at this intersection,” said TxDOT spokesperson Lucea’n Kuykendall. “Our decision was based on crash history and feedback received from locals in the Plum area.”

Kuykendall said TxDOT plans to go out for bids on a project to improve crossovers in the area. That project is scheduled to award the winning bid in July 2027.

“However, we felt an interim solution was necessary at this location,” Kuykendall said.
