Local Athletes Grab Titles at State Track & Field Meet in Austin
“It means so much, considering last year I was out with an injury. Being able to come back and do this, having these medals feels great.”
– La Grange’s Austen Diggs, who won the state title in the 200 meters Thursday after winning state bronze in the 100 earlier in the day.
“ Getting the silver medal last year, I came in this year thinking I had a good shot at the gold ... Medaling at state is a big accomplishment, but winning the gold is like the cherry on top.”
– Schulenburg’s Meredith Magliolo, who won state silver in the high jump last year before turning it to gold this season.
“ First it was raining hard and I had to fight through the rain. I cleared 11-feet and felt good and then they had a rain delay and we had to go back in. I just tried to stay stretched out and have a good mindset.”
– Lawson Fritsch, on fighting through two weather delays Saturday to win the gold.
