LGISD Staffer Placed on Leave

A current staff member at La Grange ISD is being sued by a former student as part of a federal suit filed Friday.

As soon as LGISD learned of the lawsuit the LGISD superintendent Andy McHazlett said the staff member was placed on leave until further notice.

The plaintiff is alledging that two years ago at Perryton ISD he was assaulted three times in the school locker room by teammates. The LGISD staffer in question, who was working for Perryton ISD at the time, is facing allegations for being “present and able to stop the abuse, but did nothing” as part of the lawsuit.

LGISD issued this statement Wednesday morning: “On Feb. 21, 2023, an LGISD staff member was placed on leave after we received information pertaining to an incident that occurred two years ago in another school district.

In accordance with our personnel procedures, the employee was placed on administrative leave and will not be involved in any school activities pending the District’s investigation into the matter. State and federal law prohibit the District from disclosing personally identifiable information as well as other confidential information.

Nevertheless, LGISD can state, without equivocation, that the safety of our students and staff will always be our number one priority. Once our investigation into this matter is completed, the District’s administration will examine the findings and determine what action, if any, is appropriate under LGISD policies and state and federal laws.”
