LG Police Will Enforce Fireworks Ban

Discharging fireworks is banned in all of the incorporated cities of Fayette County. La Grange Police Chief David Gilbreath wished to inform citizens that his officers will enforce the ban within La Grange during the July 4 holiday.

“It is illegal to have fireworks in your possession or to discharge fireworks within the city limits of La Grange,” Gilbreath said. “The La Grange Police Department will enforce the fire and safety code within the City of La Grange this July 4th. Although fireworks and celebrations go together, especially during the holiday season, they can be dangerous when used improperly or used while under the influence of alcohol, which can cause serious burns to the body, injuries to the hands and eyes.”

Fayette County Commissioners did not enact a ban on selling fireworks this year, but officials discouraged residents in unincorporated areas from discharging fireworks due to the extremely dry conditions. The County remains under a burn ban.
