Grass Fires Spark in LG From a Downed Line
La Grange Volunteer Fire Department put out a couple of small grass fires in town on Wednesday, Aug. 30, after a tree limb fell on a power line.
Fire Chief Frank Menefee said firefighters got the call around 12:17 p.m. reporting a grass fire in the 400 block of Colorado Street. Upon arrival, Menefee said he found a limb from a Chinese tallow tree had fallen on a powerline. The line broke at the pole and fell down, starting a small grass fire. The line stretch across the ground to the other side of the road, where it started another small grass fire near the Stolz Monument Company.
Menefee said the fire briefly threatened a building at the Stolz property, but firefighters were able to extinguish the flames before they spread to the building.
City crews repaired the power lines Wednesday afternoon. Firefighters left the scene shortly after 1 p.m.
