La Grange Senior Citizens Group Meets, Hears From New City Manager
The La Grange Senior Citizen Activity Center, Inc. held their spring meeting and luncheon on Thursday, April 25, at the City of La Grange Randolph Recreation Center. President Phil Oestreich welcomed the group and had an opening prayer. The group then pledged allegiance to the American and Texas flags. Secretary Helen Oestreich read the minutes of previous meetings and Treasurer Marilyn Strmiska gave the treasurer’s report. Board member elections were held with Liz Tannler and Mary Vasek being re-elected and new members elected were Larry Jackson, Janet Moerbe and Janet Rangel.
A trip to Cuero is planned for Wednesday, May 15, to visit the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum and Pharmaceutical Medical Museum. Seniors can sign up or let Marilyn Strmiska know if they’d like to go. Transportation and entrance fees are paid by the organization. Lunch is on your own. A survey was taken of members’ interests in attending game days this spring, as well as educational programs to be offered in the future. Cash door prizes were awarded to 10 lucky members.
Game Days at the Randolph Recreation Center are scheduled on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, starting on Thursday, May 9, from 9-11:30 a.m. All seniors are invited to attend. The contact person for Game Day is Liz Tannler (281) 543-1976.
Jack Thompson, new La Grange City Manager, was introduced by Janet Rangel, City of La Grange Recreation Director and board member. After telling the group a little about himself and his family, Mr. Thompson opened up the discussion for questions from the members. The group appreciated the interest Mr. Thompson gave to the seniors present.
After lunch the Board met for a quick meeting, electing officers: President, Phil Oestreich; Vice-President, Judy Zuhn; Secretary, Helen Oestreich; and Treasurer, Marilyn Strmiska. Doris Lidiak will be the contact person for catering for the next General Membership Meeting. Janet Rangel, Ginger Friemel and Janet Moerbe will serve on the Trip Committee. Liz Tannler will be Planning Committee Chairperson for Game Days & Educational Programs. Other Board members are Jeanette Huelsebusch, Larry Jackson, Joan Rice, John Rice, Gloria Raschke and Mary Vasek.
The next Board meeting will be held on Thursday, June 6. The Fall General Membership Meeting/Luncheon will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14. Another day trip is also planned.
