La Grange Police Staying Busy With Several Incidents

Gun at Whataburger

La Grange Police arrested a man with a gun in the Whataburger parking lot for driving while intoxicated on Jan. 29.

La Grange Police Capt. Troy Stevens said someone called 911 around 1:15 a.m. reporting a man brandishing a gun in the Whataburger parking lot, located at 1800 E. SH 71 Bypass.

Police arrived and located the suspect’s vehicle in the drive through line. Stevens said officers located an open container of alcohol in the vehicle along with a handgun. Police arrested the man, 31-year-old Austin Segassie of Muldoon. They charged him with driving while intoxicated and unlawfully carrying a firearm.

Arrest at White Rock

A La Grange man went to jail for reckless driving after allegedly cutting “donuts” in White Rock Park.

La Grange Police Capt. Troy Stevens reported that a person walking in the park called 911 around 6 p.m. on Jan. 29 after witnessing a silver Chevy pickup driving recklessly in the park. La Grange Police Sgt. Justin Koehne responded to the park, but the vehicle was already gone.

However, Deputy Jeremy Castlberry with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office spotted the pickup turning off Reynolds St. onto East Eblin St. near the park. Castleberry stopped the pickup while Koehne gathered information at White Rock Park.

Stevens said Koehne determined the pickup that Castleberry stopped was the same vehicle involved in the reckless driving at the park. Koehne arrived and arrested the driver, 18-year-old Logan Herdler of La Grange, for reckless driving.

Depot Vandalism

La Grange Police investigated a case of vandalism at the M-K-T Depot Museum.

Officials with the museum discovered two broken windows on the observation deck of the museum’s railroad caboose on Friday, Feb. 3. Police believe the damage occurred sometime between Jan. 28 and Feb. 3. Nothing was taken, according to La Grange Police Capt. Troy Stevens.

Stevens asked anyone with information about the case to contact police at (979) 968-5806.
