La Grange Offering Multiple Summer School Opportunities

The La Grange School board heard about several programs that will be offered this summer at the school.

• La Grange ISD will offer summer school classes for children in grades 3-8 who did not meet passing standards on the state assessments or are not going to be promoted to the next grade level. Successful completion of summer school can promote students to the next grade level and meet requirements for the HB 4545 instruction requirements. LGISD may also offer summer school support to students in grade 2 in need of additional intervention prior to entering grade 3. This will be offered Monday-Thursday, May 29-June 20.

• High school students who failed a course will have the opportunity to remediate that course I summer school. Intervention/instruction will be available for students who were unsuccessful on and End of Course (EOC) STAAR assessment. This instruction will meet HB 4545 intervention requirements. This will be offered Monday-Thursday, May 28-June 27 for seniors, and June 3-27 for all other high school students.

• La Grange ISD is required under 19 Texas Administrative Code Section 89.1250 to provide a summer school program for limited English proficient (LEP) students who will be eligible for admission to kindergarten and first grade at the beginning of next school year. The requirements include the summer session to be a total of 120 hours of instruction. Attending this summer school is not mandatory for students, but the program is required to be offered. It the district has less than 10 students desiring to participate, the district is not required to operate the program. This will be offered May 29-June27, Monday-Thursday.

• Special education provides summer school for a limited number of students with enrichment or extended school year services. This is schedule is determined by the needs of the student.

• Camp Summit and Kinder Camp will be offered as an invitation only reading camp for students in kindergarten through grade 2 who need additional support/instruction in reading. These programs will be offered May 29-June 27, Monday-Thursday.

• Camp Invention, will be offered (for a fee.) It will be held the week of June 10-14.
