The La Grange band will showcase their marching show “Metamorphosis” at halftime of Friday’s football game.

The La Grange High School Mighty Leopard Band performed Wednesday at the Troy Marching Festival at Troy High School. They earned a Division One rating. This is their first superior rating of the season.

It was a much stronger performance than their run at the Brazos Valley Marching Festival this past Saturday in Caldwell. At that festival they earned a Division Two - Excellent Rating, in a 2/1/2 split panel. The band has made incredible strides over the last two weeks. This past Monday evening, they got to rehearse with Jon Sweet. Mr. Sweet is a former LHS band director who now leads the Marching Band at Purdue University in Indiana. He fired up the students, talking about how they have to live up to a proud tradition of outstanding bands. MLB Alumni who were in Sweet’s bands came to spectate.

It was a special rehearsal.

The Band’s next contest is this Saturday at the Edna Marching Invitational. There will be over 30 bands, including 11 in Class 4A. “It will be a good measuring stick because they not only give ratings, but rankings as well,” said Chris Cooper, La Grange Director of Bands. “These students are starting to develop some confidence. They’re making huge strides every rehearsal. I think the fans are in for a treat this Friday.”
