Knights of Columbus, Catholic Daughters Memorial Service Held

  • The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of America held its annual memorial service for departed members on Nov. 8 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
    The Knights of Columbus and Catholic Daughters of America held its annual memorial service for departed members on Nov. 8 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

On the evening of Tuesday, Nov. 8, the annual commemoration of departed members of the Knights of Columbus, Chromcik Council No. 2574 of La Grange, Hostyn, and Plum, along with the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum, and Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 of Hostyn took place at Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Plum.

Recitation of the Rosary began at 6:30 p.m. and was led by KC member Larry Sulak and CDA Court No. 2282 member Lillian Kallus. The Memorial Service and Mass commenced after the Rosary with Grand Knight Philip Rocha giving the welcome.

During the solemn ceremony, the names of members who departed this life since the memorial a year ago were read and family members and/or friends carried a lighted candle in procession. These candles of remembrance were placed on a table in front of the altar by KC members Marcus Recek and Jody Supak.

Remembered by Grand Knight Philip Rocha were Brother Knights; Juan A. Gonzales, Cyril M Muras Jr., Dr. Bill Nolen, Kevin C. Gardner, Kenneth P. Jurecka, Tom E. Walker and Glenn D. Spitzenberger. Court Annunciation Regent Shirley Antosh memorialized 7 Catholic Daughters; Gail Dozier, Sandra Ellison, Dorothy “Dottie” Adams, Victora “Vicki” Latapie, Dorothy Janacek, Marjorie Hackemack, and Angelina “Angie” Kleiber. Court Queen of the Holy Rosary Regent Brenda Fietsam commemorated two members; Verlene Kuntschik and Alice Zezula.

In addition to the above named, a keepsake program also listed the names of all other deceased members, 337 Knights and 170 La Grange/Plum, 27 Hostyn Catholic Daughters. The banners of the organizations were displayed at the side of the altar.

Celebrant of the Mass was the Rev. Felix K. Twumasi. The homily was given by Deacon John McCourt.

Music for the Liturgy was provided by Ken Brothers, Wayne Beseda and Mary Lou Anderle of Saints Peter and Paul Parish of Plum. The reading for the Mass was recited by KC Advocate Gary Antosh. Prayers of the Faithful were led by Gary Antosh. Gift bearers were CDA Court No. 2282 member Joyce Muras and KC member Morgan Smith. Altar server was KC member Larry Sulak.

Afterwards, a time for fellowship took place that included a stew supper provided by the KC’s and desserts by CDA Court No. 1962 Plum parish ladies.
