Katy Man Arrested in La Grange For Threatening Lawmakers

A State Trooper with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) arrested a person in La Grange Saturday in connection to a threat made against state lawmakers.

The DPS Capitol Region in Austin announced Saturday morning that they identified a “credible threat” towards state lawmakers during the “No Kings” protest at the State Capitol. DPS temporarily evacuated the Capitol grounds around 1 p.m. in response to the threat. DPS reported the arrest around shortly after 5 p.m. Saturday. The man was identified as Robert Leroy Bowers, 45 of Katy. Bowers’ car was flagged by a regional intelligence alert. During the traffic stop, which occurred in Fayette County, it was discovered Bowers had a gun in his vehicle. He was taken to the Fayette County Jail.

The episode comes on the heels of what appears to be a politically-motivated assassination in Minnesota where one state lawmaker was killed and another shot and wounded. The “No Kings” protest in Austin was one of more than a thousand across the nation which compares the current Trump administration to a monarchy.
