Just One County School Will Have Contested School Board Races

School board elections will take place on May 6 across the county. The filing deadline to run in those elections was last Friday, Feb. 17.

Schulenburg I.S.D.

Five candidates will run for the three seats up for election on the Schulneburg I.S.D. Board of Trustees. Two of the incumbents, John Salem and Craig Schulz, did not file for re-election. The candidates who did file are:

• Jarrod “Buck” Schramek, the only incumbent;

• Troy Brenek, who serves as Chief of Police in Schulenburg; • Hale Hentges, a former NFL and University of Alabama football player who married a local woman and now lives in the area;

• Daniel Deagan, a Schulenburg native and local business owner; and

• Andrew Rorschach, another Schulenburg native who works in the healthcare profession. La Grange I.S.D.

Two seats are up for election on the La Grange I.S.D. School Board, and only two candidates filed:

• Place 4 - Gary Drab (incumbent) • Place 5 - Curt Harbers Dr. Marc Fitzpatrick, the incumbent for Place 5 on the La Grange School Board, did not run for re-election.

Flatonia I.S.D.

Flatonia I.S.D. will not have a contested election for school board this year. Two seats were up for election this year and only two candidates filed:

• Place 4 - Ashley Beeman

• Place 5 - LaVerne Dornak (incumbent) The Place 4 incumbent was Ray Lopez, but he did not file for re-election.

Fayetteville I.S.D.

Fayetteville ISD will not hold a contested election as well this year. Three seats were up for election and only the incumbents filed:

• Place 1 - Lisa Simpson (incumbent)

• Place 4 - Kayla Kaspar (incumbent)

• Place 5 - Colby Havel (incumbent)

Round Top-Carmine I.S.D.

Round Top-Carmine I.S.D. will also not hold a contested election this year. Three seats were up for election and only the incumbents filed:

• Place 3 - Michael Sacks (incumbent)

• Place 4 - Brandon Pieper (incumbent)

• Place 5 - Carl Schobel (incumbent) Another candidate had filed for Place 4 on the RTC School Board but decided to withdraw from the election after the filing deadline.
