Join Fayette County’s Walk Across Texas Series

Create healthy habits, lower your risk of disease, meet new friends, and achieve your 2023 health goals. Join Fayette County’s upcoming, eightweek WalkAcross Texas! program which starts March 12.

Walking is one of the least expensive and easiest ways to get fit says Sally Garrett, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Agent-Family & Community Health. Physical activity helps reduce your risk of cancer, diabetes, heart disease and stroke. Increase your chances for success by creating a team of eight and joining your teammates as they walk towards a healthier lifestyle. Walk Across Texas is life changing. By completing the eight-week program, you will feel better, lower your stress level, and get all the additional benefits of regular physical activity, not to mention creating long-standing, healthy habits of physical activity.

A weekly newsletter with health/nutritional information will be sent out to all WAT members, Garrett said. There is no cost for this exercise program, and you can sign up online. Challenge your friends, family members, and/ or co-workers to sign up. Other forms of physical activity can also count on your weekly activity log. At the end of the eight-week cycle, prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. For more information or if you have any questions contact the Fayette County Extension Office at (979) 9685831.
