It’s Already Been a Long, Hot Summer
Summer Officially Begins Tuesday, But This Area’s Roasting, Dry Conditions Are Already Exhausting
La Grange Fire Department put out a fire that burned about two-and-a-half acres on Makinson Rd. near West Point last Friday, June 17.
The call came in around 1:15 p.m. La Grange Fire Chief Frank Menefee said the property owner started a small pile of logs on fire. Menefee said the property owner reported that he left the fire unattended but did not think it would get out of control.
“Things are really dry and that’s not a good thing,” Menefee said.
The Fayette County Commissioners Court had enacted a burn ban about a week prior due to dry conditions. The property owner did not know about the burn ban, Menefee said.
La Grange Fire Department responded with two brush trucks, a tanker and about five firefighters.
Several neighbors assisted at the scene as well.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and left the scene around 2:10 p.m.
