An Icy Start to the New Year

The coldest extended period of weather Fayette County has seen in two years wrapped this area in its icy grip for four days this week.

Accordingly, Fayette County folks hunkered down with school, city and county departments closing as well as many businesses, but freezing precipitation was kept to a minimum.

Here’s a look at some of the temperature data from the cold snap, according to LCRA’s weather station just outside La Grange: Sunday’s Low: 22 Monday’s Low: 19 Tuesday’s low: 19 Wednesday’s low: 14

• It stayed below freezing from 6:55 a.m. Sunday through 10:15 a.m. Wednesday with the exception of a short period of time Tuesday afternoon when it climbed to 33 just before nightfall when the temperature dropped below freezing rapidly again.
